Early Life of Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman’s birth name is Natalie Hershlag. She was born on 9 June 1981 in Jerusalem, Isreal, to Anver Hershlag, a gynecologist, and Shelley, a homemaker who now works as her agent. Her paternal grandparents were Jewish immigrants to Isreal, and her maternal grandparents were American Jews. She was the only child, and She grew up in a Jewish household. She used to live with her parents in Washington DC where she attended Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School while living in Washington DC.

In 1988 they moved to Connecticut, then eventually settled down in Long Island in 1990. She went to Solomon Schechter Day School of Nassau County, a Jewish elementary school, where she learned to speak Hebrew. In 1997, Natalie Portman joined the cast of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999) to play one of the lead roles of Queen Padme Amidala. In this film, she co-starred with Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, Jake Lloyd, and more. This film was a prequel to Star Wars Trilogy. Portman did not know about the film franchise and previous Star Wars movies when she was cast.
